Spinach is a leafy green with oval leaves that are mildly bitter and savory. Spinach is exceptionally healthy!

Quality Check

Good spinach has green, perky leaves. Avoid any moisture when buying. Keep as cool and dry as possible. Fresh spinach loses nutritional value after a few days in the crisper, so use quickly or store in the freezer for up to eight months.

Try spinach in a wrap, a casserole, with eggs, or in a smoothie. It’s usually good to add spinach to a recipe toward the end of cooking, especially soup. As a side all its own, throw spinach in a frying pan with some garlic and olive oil!
