A persimmon is a sweet fruit that feels like a firmer tomato.
Choose a persimmon with a deep color. If you see some black staining on the fruit, that means it is very ripe. Because they ripen so quickly, you may want to buy under ripe fruits. They should not be refrigerated as that ruins the flavor.
Persimmons can be cut with an “x” shape form the top and the slices can be eaten. You can make a delicious frozen custard with this fruit as well as pairing it with a bit of prosciutto. It goes great on top of ice cream as well.
