Peppermint is a cross between watermint and spearmint. It is green with smooth, fuzzy stems and defined veins. The wide, smooth leaves have a potent minty taste.
The leaves should look green and perky. You should be able to smell the menthol aroma. Swaddle the leaves on a damp paper towel in a bag in the refrigerator and they’ll last a week.
Wash and dry mint before use. Freeze them in ice cube trays to put in a mint julep! Or dry them out to brew in tea. You can also extract the oil to make homemade dark chocolate peppermint bark!
