Jicama is also called the Mexican turnip. It has sweet, starchy taste similar to green beans.
Choose jicama that is firm with smooth skin. It should not be cracked or bruised. The skin should not be soft or with any decay. Make sure it looks fresh as well. If you would like to store it, place it in a cool, dry place. It will stay up to 3 weeks.
Only the jicama root should be eaten. You can eat it raw with some lime juice and chili oil. Jicama also does well in soups or stir fry. The root also fits perfectly into a salad or it can sliced into wedges for dipping.
