Habanero are hot chili peppers from the Amazon. Most are red or orange, but appear in many other colors. These peppers are fiercely spicy, with a slight floral aroma. They’re over a hundred times hotter than jalapeños!
Their skin should look rumpled and glossy all over. Wash and dry on a paper towel, then store in a bag in the fridge. You can soak them in alcohol to take out the heat.
Warning: Habanero are among the hottest! Do not try if you are sensitive to spicy food. If you’re trying it for the first time, take a small bite. Cut the stem off before cooking. Cut a pepper into tiny pieces and stew it, seeds and all, with chicken and mangoes for an adventurous meal!
