Fuji are an apple hybrid arriving from Japan in the 60’s, a cross between Red Delicious and “Rawls Jennet.” They are denser, sweeter, larger, and crispier than most apples.
The flesh of a fuji is usually pinkish red flush, often with a yellow-green area. Check for blemish, bruise, or soft spot.
You can keep fuji apples in the refrigerator for a whole year! Eat them freshly sliced, or in a bowl of oatmeal. The crispiness and size making them great for baking. Slice them then or in tiny cubes for a salad with nuts.
