Butterhead lettuce leaves boast a soft, butter-textured bite and a mild flavor.
Avoid lettuce with wilting leaves. If the lettuce head starts to soften on the drive home or in the fridge (store in an airtight bag), it can usually be refreshed by soaking in ice water for ten minutes before preparing.
Rinse, chop, and use however you’d use lettuce. Butterhead’s unique texture makes it ideal on hamburgers and sandwiches, and is especially well-suited to vinaigrette salad dressings.
