Bitter Orange

Bitter oranges or sour oranges are a tart orange native to Southeast Asia. They are very popular when making marmalade.

Quality Check

A good orange will be heavy and firm. You should avoid the ones that feel spongy or have mold. To store, place them in a the fridge. They can be kept this way for up to a month. You may also keep them in a cool, dark place.

Preparation

Bitter oranges are never eaten out of hand. They are tart with a bitter taste when eaten this way. These oranges are great for marmalade or for brewing beer. The peel can also be used to make gingerbread.
