The Anjou pear is a juicy pear of European origin. They come in red and green varieties.
When buying Anjou pears make sure they are ripe. Ripeness can be checked by pressing gently near the top of the fruit. If the pear is slightly soft, it is ripe. Anjous should be eaten within one or two days of ripeness.
These pears are great in a smoothie or eaten in hand. You can add them to a cheese platter as well. Anjous are also great for baking. If used for this purpose, they should be slightly under-ripe so they hold up when being baked.
